With so many incredible options, designing your kitchen cabinetry can be a time-consuming process with too many decisions to make. One reason this can be so difficult is the lack of industry-specific knowledge and jargon. In this blog, we are going to break down all the specifics and technical language around our cabinet doors and drawer fronts.

Cabinet Doors

When it comes to our custom cabinet doors, there are several important key terms to understand. The first of these is what is meant by panel style and shape. While these sound synonymous, they actually refer to different characteristics. Panel style has to do with whether it is a recessed panel or a raised panel.

Panel shape, on the other hand, refers to whether the panel has a square or arched top. This designation is important because if the door needs to have an arched top, then we cannot produce it with a miter joint.

Matching joint styles can become an issue when square doors are hung on the base cabinet and arched doors are hung on the wall cabinets. And so, you could end up accidentally ordering doors without matching joint styles, which can be rather distracting and is not recommended. However, knowing that your square and arched doors both need to have cope-and-stick joints will save you from this frustrating mistake.

One concern that is specific to ordering custom cabinet doors online with us is selecting a pre-boring option. We can pre-bore your cabinet doors for a small upcharge so that your doors can accommodate compact and concealed hinges. We also are able to set the borehole either at either a 3 mm or 5 mm distance. The distance is measured from the edge of the door to the closest point on the borehole.

Drawer Fronts

For the most part, drawer fronts have the same concerns as cabinet doors. Your drawer fronts can be ordered as routed, 5-piece, or solid construction, so finding the match for your cabinet door is not a problem. In addition, the drawer fronts do not have any boring options, as they are attached directly to a drawer box, so you do not have to worry about that.

However, drawer fronts do have one key element to understand. When ordering matching drawer fronts for cabinet doors that have visible wood grain (real or artificial), the drawer fronts could have grain that is perpendicular to the door. This means you will have a horizontal band of grain running across a vertical wall of grain pattern. For our drawer fronts at CabinetDoorMart, they will all have horizontal grain patterns unless they are part of the modern thermofoil series.

Our Modern Thermofoil Series includes 10 new styles and colors. These styles, colors, and textures are trendy best sellers reimagine the classic for the modern moment. Continuous grain is a stunning, modern trend that we are excited to accommodate with this modern line!

Wrapping Up

It may seem like there are so many choices and styles that you could never know which to pick. However, if you know the names of certain features of the styles you like, like miter joint, you will be able to filter your searches to manageable sizes.
