Finding the right cabinet doors for your kitchen and style can be a difficult process. At CabinetDoorMart, we want to help our customers create unique spaces for their personal style with our custom cabinet doors. The best part is that all of our custom cabinet doors are available online and ship directly to your door!

If you are interested in replacing just your cabinet doors and drawer fronts, also known as cabinet refacing, we can help! We offer 100’s of styles and several high-quality materials for your replacement cabinet doors. In this article, we are going to look at the 5 easy steps you can take to order custom cabinet doors this holiday season. Before we get started, gather the following materials:

  1. Notepad
  2. Pen or Pencil
  3. Tape Measure
  4. Computer, Tablet, or Phone

1 Measuring for New Cabinet Doors

The first step to ordering your replacement doors is to measure your doors. It is important to be as precise as possible when measuring your doors so that everything will be able to properly open and close. If you are wanting your new doors to be the same size as your current doors, then you can just measure them from outside edge to outside edge.

If you are changing the look of your cabinet doors, then you will likely need to do some math. First, measure the cabinet box opening that you will be covering. Then, you will need to decide if you want to have a partial overlay, full overlay, or inset cabinet doors. As you might have guessed, full overlay doors cover the entire face frame, partial overlay doors cover some of it, and inset cabinet doors show the full face frame on the box.

Once you have made that decision, you can add or subtract from the opening size as needed. For example, if my cabinet box opening is 10” x 10” and I want a partial overlay of ½” all around, then I would need to add 1” to the width and height.

This way, you are able to account for each side. If you have a larger opening and require split doors, the math gets a bit tricky. To see examples and diagrams, check out our cabinet door and drawer front measuring guide.

2 Finding Your Style of Kitchen Cabinet Doors

It is likely that you have some idea of the stylistic direction for your new kitchen design. If not, don’t worry. To get started, simply click on the Cabinet Doors menu on the top left of our homepage. Here you are able to see all of our styles, as well as beautiful examples of our solid wood doors, thermofoil doors, and medium-density fiberboard offerings.

You can also browse by panel style. This could help you find the perfect raised panel cabinet door or a door that features a recessed panel like our Shaker cabinet doors. In addition, we also offer slab style and matching drawer fronts, so that you can perfectly complement your door and design.

3 Selecting a Cabinet Finish

Once you have decided on a stylistic direction for your kitchen design, then you will need to choose how you want them finished. By “finish,” we are referring to whether the doors and drawer fronts were painted, stained, or clear finished. At CabinetDoorMart, we offer painted doors, primed doors, unfinished doors, and thermofoil doors.

The aesthetic direction you plan to take your kitchen in will influence your decision in this step. For example, those who love traditional spaces should look into darker colors and stains. With stains, it is ideal to have an even and clear grain pattern, so that the stain will highlight the natural beauty of the wood.

In more contemporary designs, you might be interested in bright paints, and so you won’t have to worry about finding the best cuts of wood, as a paint grade option will suit your needs just fine. Alternatively, thermofoil doors arrive pre-finished and are available in a wide variety of trendy colors and textures.

4 Customize

At CabinetDoorMart, we give you the opportunity to customize your doors, so that you are able to create the perfect cabinet doors. First, you have the option of choosing a different outside edge detail than what is pictured. In addition, we also offer various panel and inside edge detailing options.

To get an idea of what is possible, check out our available profiles page. If you don’t see what you are looking for, or you have something a bit more special in mind, then fill out our cabinetry quote form to work one on one with a member of our sales team.

After you have your profiles selected, you will need to decide if you want to have your doors bored for hinges. While we do not provide the hinges, we are able to bore your doors for compact concealed or European-style hinges for you. Alternatively, you can bore the doors on-site with supplies from the hardware store.

Last but not least, you have the option to have your door cut for glass. We are able to remove the entire center panel or install French lites. We can also provide the rubber stops that you will need to hold the glass in place. However, we do not provide any glass.

5 Place Your Order

The final step is to add all of your doors and drawer fronts to your cart and hit “Check Out!” Our streamlined ordering system will walk you through all the steps you need to get your doors into the production line. While you wait for your doors to be sent to you, you can prepare for the exciting project of replacing your kitchen cabinet doors.
