Budget-Friendly Bathroom Makeover

Budget-Friendly Bathroom Makeover

Posted by Admin on May 20th 2021

Bathrooms need to have a good blend of functionality and comfort. If your bathroom has gotten a bit dated, or if you have things that need replacing, even a small-scale bathroom remodel can help bring new life to your bathroom.

When you think bathroom remodel, you are probably imagining a large, time-consuming project with an even bigger price tag. But not everybody has the budget, time, or possibly the need for new fixtures and fittings. The good news is that with a little creativity and time, it really is possible to remodel a bathroom on a smaller budget and without major construction. In this blog, we are going to take a look at some ways you can give your bathroom a fresh face without breaking the bank.

Remodel Your Bathroom With Wallpaper

Updating or adding a bright wallpaper to your bathroom can be a relatively quick and budget-friendly way to instantly give the space a makeover. To really change the feel, opt for a brighter color wallpaper. This will reflect light throughout the room, which will make your bathroom feel larger and more comfortable. Let’s take a look at what this remodel project could look like in a smaller bathroom with old wallpaper.

In our small bathroom example, the first step is to get the old wallpaper out. To do this we will need to scrap all of it off and scrub the walls clean. In our bathroom, there is an outdated wooden ceiling, so we are going to give it a fresh coat of white paint. This will help start to brighten up the room. Next, we are going to replace the old towel rack with a newer, more assessable one. Then, we will put up the paste and new wallpaper.

Smaller Touches

This might be as much of a remodel as you need to make your bathroom the way you want it. However, there are a few more tasks we are going to add to our project.

Since our bathroom window is private, we decided to install glass shelves across it. This gives a great boost of natural light. This extra light will reflect off of our new, bright surfaces making the bathroom even brighter. As an added bonus, the natural light will also help plants thrive and liven up the room.

For a larger budget project, it would make sense to install a small bathroom vanity to be used for storage needs. Since they are available in custom sizes, finding the perfect size won’t be an issue. For a more budget-conscious remodel, it would make the most sense to preserve the current vanity, since they can be a large portion of the budget. Instead, we could focus on creative storage ideas. Leaning towel racks, over toilet shelves, and other vertical storage options will be vital for this small bathroom.

Remodel Your Bathroom With Paint

This remodel plan is largely similar to the wallpaper plan, but we swapped the wallpaper for paint. The first step will remain the same, stripping the old wallpaper off and scrubbing the walls clean. Next, we will paint the wooden ceiling and install the new towel rack just like in the previous example. Now, instead of paste and wallpaper, we will be using primer and paint. The walls will need at least two coats of primer and then two coats of paint. While these are available as a two-in-one, separate application typically yields better results.

Again, we are going to install the glass shelves to help keep the room bright and light. But before we put the shelves up, the window frame could be painted with a pop of color to add some interest to the room. In addition, we could also use a stencil to create a mural or border around the top of the walls.

Painting a room is a great way to nearly instantly change the look and feel. Painting is also a task that can be accomplished by almost any DIY’er.
